Trekking tour Queropalca Cordillera Huayhuash 7 Days, We designed this special version of a 7 day trek of the Cordillera Huayhuash for our clients who may be time limited but still seek to capture the unparallel beauty and spirit of this treasured Andes mountain range. We recommend that you are have a good level of physical fitness and are well acclimatized before committing to this awesome mini-trek adventure in the Peruvian Andes.

Travel Program


Day 01: Huaraz – Huanucopampa – Queropalca (3800m/12464ft)
Duration: 6 -7 hours (by car)
We start with a six hour drive from Huaraz to La Union. From La Union we drive a half hour further to Huanuco Pampa (12,257ft / 3736m) situated on a grand plateau area. We will visit this intriguing and captivating ancient Inca city of Huanuco Viejo having lunch, then we will continue to Queropalca where is our first Camp. Overnight Camping at (3800m/12464ft).

Day 02: Queropalca – Carhuacocha (4250m/13940ft)
Duration: 5 hours aprox
Distance: 11 km aprox
Here we will meet our Arrieros (donkey driver) and donkeys. From this point, we hike to Lake Carhuacocha at 13,615ft / 4150m where we have close up views of the snow-capped peaks of Jirishanca and Yerupajá which are reflected in the lake water where we camp on the shores of Lake Carhuacocha.

Day 03: Side Trip to the Spectacular Laguna Siula Lakes and Return to Carhuacocha Camp
Duration: 5 - 6 hours aprox
We stay another night at Carhuacocha to enjoy the mountain surroundings. We take a day hike up a side valley past the base of Yerupaja and Siula Grande. Here we find 3 glacial lakes, all unique in that each has a different shade of blue or green. Sometimes we see avalanches coming off the glaciers into the lakes.

Day 04: Via Punta Carhuac to Laguna Mitucocha
Duration: 5 hours aprox
Distance: 11 km aprox
A steady ascent on a good path takes us to Punta Carhuac (4650m) pass, with good opportunities en route of spotting the elusive Viscacha rodent, endemic to the high Andes. From here, weather permitting, we will enjoy excellent views of the Yerupaja and Siula Grande peaks. We descend on grass to the Janca plateau then head southeast to reach tonight’s camp at another large, trout-filled lake; Laguna Mitucocha (4250m). After lunch, you have the option of walking around the lake. From our camp we have superb views of the sheer face of Jirishanca (6094m) and Jirishanka Chico

Day 05: Mitucocha – Rondoy (4300m/14104ft)
Duration: 6 - 7 hours aprox
Distance: 12 km aprox
Leaving our camp we head towards Cacanampunta Pass at 15,584ft / 4750m. From this vantage point we will enjoy the spectacular view on the other side of the valley and we might have an opportunity to observe majestic condors flying above the pass. We then descend down to our camp at Rondoy Valley (14,272ft / 4350m).

Day 06: Rondoy – Jahuacocha (4100m/13448ft)
Duration: 7 hours
Distance: 14 km aprox.
Today is a demanding day but well worth the energy for what you will personally capture this day in breathtaking majestic scenic views as we gradually ascend up through the Rondoy Valley. After ascending to the top of the Rondoy Pass at 15,584ft / 4750 m we then descend towards the beautiful Laguna Jahuacocha on the way to our camp at the head of the lake at 13,287ft / 4050m. 6 to 7 hours.

Day 07: Jahuacocha / Llamac- Huaraz
Duration: 4 hours (hiking), 4 hours (by transport)
After an early start and gentle descent for an hour, we start our gradual climb to the final pass, Pampa Llamac (4300m), from where we have our final views of much of the Huayhuash range. Then it is a long descent back to the Llamac valley and the village of Llamac.
In Llamac the bus will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz and your hotel for that long-awaited hot shower!! We arrive in Huaraz at about 16:00 hours.

  • All food and drink during in-town days with the exception of the Celebration Banquet
  • Incidental personal expenditures, including emergency evacuations and medical expenditures
  • Travel, Personal, and/or medical insurance
What to take?
  • You will only carry a daypack with whatever you require for that day's walk. All you need is appropriate clothing, a good pair of walking shoes or hiking boots (and a spirit of adventure with a good dose of endurance for this trip!!).
